David is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Centre for Resilience of Critical Infrastructure in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Toronto where he leads the infrastructure resilience thrust. David holds a doctorate and a master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Toronto. His research and professional work concerns the sustainability and resiliency of cities, campuses, infrastructure, enterprises and communities. David has developed ecological, network, control system and thermodynamic methodologies for studying and analyzing topics in these areas. He has co-authored 24 publications including 7 journal papers, 6 conference papers, and 4 book chapters. His recent work at the centre concerns developing new risk management methodology for infrastructure that supports improved decision making. In particular he recently completed a year-long study of the protection and resilience of the infrastructure on the St. George campus at the University of Toronto. This work directly informed what he will be talking about today.
