Resilience: Emerging Thinking and Practice
This meeting was looking at the various fields of research conducted at the Centre for Resilience of Critical Infrastructure (crci). Different aspects of Resiliency were be presented and discussed: Infrastructure Resilience as well as Structural Resilience with regard to Blast and Seismic Loading.
Speakers
- Michael Seica, practicing Senior Structural Engineer as well as Adjunct Professor at the University of Toronto. His specialization is Protective Design and he will be speaking about Blast, Impact and High Strain Loading Effects on Structures.

- Michael Grey, Executive Vice-President at Cast Connex. Being an expert on Seismic Design, the emphasis of his talk will be about Design of Seismic Resilient Buildings. Through the use of innovative cast steel connectors developed at the University of Toronto, it is now possible for new and retrofitted old buildings to withstand earthquake and blast loading.

- David Bristow, Postdoctoral Fellow at the crci Infrastructure Resilience Thrust Group. His main interests are Infrastructure & Community Resilience as well as System, Network and Infrastructure Dependency Management. He will be speaking about investing in infrastructure hardening compared to investing in infrastructure resilience. The talk will explore how these investments differ relative to the risk context and their differing trade-offs and merits.
